The plan is to meet at Killiney DART station at 10.05am (to coincide with DART times) and then walk along the beach looking at hard rocks and glacial sediments. This will be followed by a walk from the beach to the top of Killiney Hill (150m).
Lambay Island, often simply Lambay, is an island in the Irish Sea off the coast of north County Dublin, Ireland. The largest island off the east coast of Ireland, it is four kilometres (two nautical miles) offshore from the headland at Portrane, and is the easternmost point of the province of Leinster. We will examine it's volcanic origins over two days of adventuring.
The trip will focus on the role of long lived faults in the genesis of vein hosted copper mineralisation in SW Ireland. It will present new data for historic vein-hosted copper sulphide deposits in the Upper Palaeozoic Munster and South Munster Basins of southwest Ireland. Detailed mapping, 3D modelling, fluid inclusion microthermometry and geochronology from the Allihies area of the Beara Peninsula, have led to a new interpretation of the timing and development of ore mineralisation in the area
