MEETING POINT: 18.30pm on Friday 15th in Gortin, Co. Tyrone Community centre opposite the Hostel, 62 Main Street.

Saturday morning meeting at 10am at Dalradian Resources Ltd. field office, 67 Main Street Gortin.

TIME: Friday 18:30pm

PROVISIONAL ITINERARY:

Opening presentation at 18.30 on Friday in Gortin. Saturday’s itinerary will include a visit to Curraghinalt gold prospect (Dalradian Resources Ltd), near Gortin, and Sunday’s to Cavanacaw gold mine (Galantas Irish Gold), near Omagh.

Friday April 15th: Evening presentation by Dr Mark Cooper (GSNI) – The Bedrock and Superficial geology of the Sperrins Mountains

Saturday April 16th: Curraghinalt and outcrops. Saturday evening DINNER is booked for the FOOTHILLS Restaurant (Gortin) at 8pm for anyone interested.

Sunday April 17th: Geology of the Lack Inlier and Cavanacaw Gold Mine

The day includes two scene-setting exposures to the Cavanacaw gold deposit and mine visit.

Meet at 10am at the junction of of the A32 (Clanabogan Rd) and B4 (Drumlish Rd) [H2382 3664], approximately 8km southwest of Omagh.

Stop 1 (10.30am) Cornavarrow Stream section [2348 3695]: Highly deformed, fuchsite bearing, graphitic semipelite and pelite in the west to east orientated Lack Shear Zone. The section hosts gold bearing quartz veins.

Stop 2 (11.30am) Creevan Burn section [24035 37015]: Exposures of variably deformed, graphitic semipelite and pelite also in the Lack Shear Zone (also termed the Creevan Burn Shear) just south of the north to south orientated Cavanacaw vein system. Section includes a number of sheared, gold bearing quartz veins and graphitic thrust/fault surfaces.

Drive to Cavanacaw Gold Mine [240 370] and lunch (1pm).

Stop 3 (2pm) Cavanacaw Gold Mine [240 370]: Tour of the geology including lithologies, metamorphism, structure and vein networks. Disperse 4pm.
