RDS Speaker Series: Dr Peadar McArdle - 'Gold Frenzy: A story suitable for modern Ireland'?

Wicklow really did have a gold rush back in 1795 and the recently published book ‘Gold Frenzy’ describes its history as well as the source of its fabulous gold nuggets. By the mid-1930s the award of State mining facilities at Goldmine River led to Dáil charges of corruption and lease trafficking (an impossible event today, surely!), but an Oireachtas Committee dealt surprisingly efficiently with the matter. Dr Peadar McArdle is the recently retired Director of the Geological Survey of Ireland, and his talk will detail the origin and history of the Goldmine River gold deposits. Date: Wednesday April 03, 2013 Venue: Minerva Suite Opening Hours: 6.00pm - 8.00pm Admission: Free of charge and open to all. Advance booking is essential.
