The minutes of last year’s AGM were unavailable. It was announced that these will be available on our website in the coming weeks.
The President’s report was read. Outgoing president, Peadar McArdle, noted the success of the association this year, in membership, activity, grant initiatives, website development and the wide range of geological topics we have presented this year through field trips, workshops and lectures. This address also included a thank you to all current council members and our current auditor, Prof. Stephen Daly. Peadar then welcomed and handed over to Laura Smith as incoming president. Copies of the president’s report were handed out to attendees.
A report was given by the Treasurer, Peter Lewis. The accounts were available and any questions were answered. These included a clarification of what Travel and Entertainmenrt included, it was clarified that this was mainly in relation to entertaining and transporting speakers.
The Minutes Secretary, Laura Smith, reported on matters that council have dealt with this year and the range of topics that have been covered. Our efforts to offer events further afield was noted as well as the communication efforts that have been made throughout the year, including newsletters, website and event notifications.
Dan O’Shea, Excursions Secretary, gave a report on the success of the field trips attended this year as well as what we have planned for the future. All field trips throughout the year were well attended and enjoyed by all.
The new health and safety statement was announced. It was highlighted that in future this will need to be read by any participant wanting to take part in field trips. This will be available on the website.
There were no nominations received prior to the AGM for new members of council. It was therefore decided that council positions would be decided at a later meeting of council.
Incoming President, Laura Smith, closed the meeting with many thanks to Outgoing President, Peadar McArdle and to the rest of council for their efforts during the year.
