The Tellus Border Project

Tellus Border was an £4.5M EU INTERREG IVA–funded project which mapped the physical and chemical environment of the border region of Ireland. Through a cross-border partnership, the Geological Survey of Ireland and Geological Survey of Northern Ireland have produced seamless cross-border geophysical and geochemical maps of the northern region of Ireland and facilitated over a dozen research projects using the data. In addition, the freely available data has already attracted over €1.4M of inward investment into the border region due to mineral exploration activity and will provide a valuable environmental baseline for the upcoming EPA/DCENR Shale Gas research programme. This seminar will provide an overview of the data collected, its geological interpretation and research highlights, presented by Ray Scanlon of the Geological Survey of Ireland.

Ray Scanlon

Ray is currently based at the Geological Survey of Ireland as Acting Principal Geologistand as been working at the GSI for over 10 years. Ray’s main project at the moment is the Tellus Border project and was previously involved with the very successful Tellus Project, which covered the whole of Northern Ireland.
